PLANNED GIVING
What it means to us
Making a planned gift to Nipissing means planning a charitable donation in advance to leave a legacy for future generations.
The reasons for making a planned gift are very personal. Whether it’s to support your community, to ensure the values that matter to you and your legacy lives on, or to pay it forward, this type of giving has a lasting impact on the Nipissing community, today and for generations to come.
There are many planned giving options that can help you maximize your social impact and tax benefits, while balancing your personal and financial needs.
Ways to Make a Planned Gift and Leave a Legacy
A lasting gift from a beloved professor
Dr. John Long’s career as an educator and researcher took him across the country, but the Mushkegowuk people and Treaty 9 territory held special place in his life and work. For this reason, he established the Treaty No. 9 Bursary which supports students who are pursuing research in partnership with an Indigenous community located within the Treaty No. 9 region.
Tragically, Nipissing lost a dear friend, colleague, and educator when Dr. Long passed in March 2016. It was Dr. Long’s wish that a portion of his estate be devoted to supporting Treaty research and helping students along their educational journeys. By leaving a bequest, Dr. Long’s legacy at Nipissing may live on through this special bursary.
Planned giving is a powerful way for individuals to make a significant impact on the charities and causes they care about, like Nipissing University. Done properly, donors can make meaningful gifts while also achieving their own financial and estate planning goals. I encourage you to consider this type of giving as part of your overall financial planning strategy.
