Indigenous Initiatives

Support Indigenous Student Success

At Nipissing University, we believe students flourish when their cultural identities are honoured, their communities respected, and their education supported in multiple dimensions. Our Office of Indigenous Initiatives – Enji giigdoyang, meaning “where we come to meet, discuss, and talk about things” in the Nbisiing dialect of Anishinaabemowin – embodies this commitment by offering holistic academic, personal, and cultural support to Indigenous learners.

Through mentorship programs, peer learning, vibrant cultural and wellness activities, tutoring, and welcoming gathering spaces, Enji giigdoyang creates an environment where Indigenous students are seen, heard, and empowered to succeed. The Office works in meaningful partnership with regional First Nations communities and Indigenous organizations to build spaces of belonging and opportunity rooted in respect and reciprocity.

When you give to Indigenous Initiatives at Nipissing University, you become part of a story of transformation. Your support helps fund:

  • Peer-mentor networks that guide Indigenous students as they transition into university life;
  • Culturally grounded learning spaces such as the Tipi and Treaty Learning Centre that honour Indigenous knowledge and traditions;
  • Dedicated support programs that help students navigate their academic journey with confidence;
  • Outreach programs that inspire youth in Indigenous communities to explore post-secondary education.

One meaningful way to make a direct impact is by supporting the Mino-Bimaadiziwin Cultural Development Bursary – an award that celebrates Indigenous culture and supports students in their academic and personal growth.

Your generosity helps advance reconciliation, empower Indigenous excellence, and ensure that Indigenous students at Nipissing University have the opportunity to thrive as future leaders.
